DIY Hair Ties :)

Being a girl with long/thick hair, I go through more hair ties in one year than anybody should. I hate how damaging the elastic bands are to my hair so I started using fold over elastic a couple of years ago.

They are really simple to make!

You’ll need:
5/8″ Fold over elastic
Scissors

I buy my elastic from a wholesale distributor in China. I can get 5 yards for about $2.50-$3.00. To break it down for you..you pay on average 3-6 dollars at Target and Walmart for 4 of these hair ties. A specialty shop here in my town sells individual ones for $2.00 a piece. I can make 20 for $2.50 :) They make a net profit of over 60 cents per hair tie you buy.

So save yourself some money and make your own :)

Take the elastic and cut 9 inches. You might find you like more or less depending on how this your hair is. Mine is super thick so I make mine slightly larger so I can triple it when I put my hair in a ponytail.

So you cut, fold in half and knot the end :) so easy my grandma helps me make them.

  1. Terrific article! This is the kind of info that is supposed to be shared across the internet. Disgrace on the search engines for no longer positioning this post higher! =)
