The Nanny Diary

There are few things in life I enjoy more than hanging out with these two boys :) I crossed paths with them 4 years ago and it has been amazing to watch them grow and mature. This weekend their parents were off to a wedding and I had the privilege of getting to hangout with P and C.

This is what I learned:
Everything that makes strange noises is absolutely hilarious when you’re 13 and 15.

The oldest child syndrome still exists :) I am one so I know the signs.

Comic book stores are pretty cool. They are insane on free Comic book day! I still love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and people in costumes are creepy.

The art of chilling out. This was a struggle for me! I’m so accustomed to go go go go that being still is a challenge. But I found that relaxing is amazing! I’m currently curled up on the couch listening to P chat with his best friend while navigating through Minecraft. I’ve read 3 books this weekend and I can’t even remember the last time that happened. I’ve sketched new designs to work on next week and I’ve been madly crocheting my blue afghan that might get done by Christmas.

I feel amazing! Slept in on Sat. There were no roommates hanging around in the kitchen, no neighbors mowing their lawns, and no rooster crowing. We simply hung out, acted goofy and had the best time. I introduced P to the world of Nanny McPhee and McHale’s Navy. It’s a shame kids have no clue about some of the best tv shows. He’s never seen any of the old Disney classics either! How can you not know about Kurt Russell?

But I learned this. I need to slow down. I move so fast that I forget to giggle at the silly moments in life. I forget to enjoy the boy’s laughter and their youth. I forget that it’s okay to have me time. To just unplug and veg out for a bit. To rest :) I’ve done nothing but enjoy life this weekend and that’s a lesson I won’t forget.
