Ah it’s that time of year again! The track has been dragged, the hats have been bought and the dresses are ready to be squeezed into.
It’s the tradition of standing at the oval, yelling, and wishing them to run faster even though they’re running like mad! It’s Kentucky Derby time y’all!
{This year is especially significant. It will only be the second time since 2000 that an African American jockey has ridden in the Derby. Best of Luck!}
But lets get to the real reason people love the Derby :) the food!
Meet Derby Pie :) it has to be a slice of heaven in your mouth there is just no other way to describe it! I got this recipe from butyoucancallmecrazy.blogspot.com. I’ve made it several times since last year. I mean why should you only be allowed to eat something so fabulous only once a year? So here it is!

Kentucky Derby Pie
Yield: 1 pie
Ingredients:
1 c. sugar | ½ c. flour
2 eggs, slightly beaten | 1 tsp. vanilla
½ c. salted butter, melted & cooled | 1 c. broken pecans (or walnuts)
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips | ¼ c. Kentucky Bourbon (optional)
1 Pie Crust
Mix sugar and flour together. Add the eggs and remaining ingredients. Pour into crust. Bake at 350° for about 1 hour.
At our house we like to top with chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream or a little whipped cream.
My favorite thing..eating it for breakfast the next day! {Fitties don’t judge}
